NYOS 2018

The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) is delighted to announce that Classical Applications for 2018 are now open.

2018 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for NYOS as they present a programme for all seasons celebrating the ‘Power of Nature’.

During our spring and summer residential courses students receive tuition from top-class professional musicians, while working alongside renowned soloists and conductors followed by the opportunity to experience the thrill of orchestral performance at top venues across the country.

As part of the Symphony Orchestra programme in 2018 they will mark a welcome return to one the most prestigious festivals in the UK and take part in an once-in-a-lifetime, truly international, live open-air performance in Glasgow’s George Square. More details about both these events will be revealed in due course.

So, if you would like to play your part in #NYOS2018 and you are Scottish, or study either at school, university or conservatoire in Scotland, or have family ties in Scotland but live elsewhere, then you can apply now.

Our orchestra guidelines for the appropriate standard are as follows:
NYOS Junior Orchestra (aged 8 and over): ABRSM Grade 5
NYOS Senior Orchestra (aged 12 and over): ABRSM Grade 7
NYOS Symphony Orchestra (aged 25 and under): ABRSM Grade 8

NB: Qualification is a guide only and not essential

Applicants need only complete one application form to be considered for all NYOS classical orchestras.  Following your application, you will be invited to audition. If successful at the audition stage, you will be offered a place in a specific NYOS ensemble.

There are two audition methods open to all applicants. Candidates can submit a recorded audition or, subject to demand, NYOS will hold auditions in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and London.  NB percussion auditions will only be held in Glasgow.
